Visitor interpretation project, Auckland Zoo
The Pridelands interpretation project transforms the idea of what zoo signage can be. Our idea uses only ‘found’ interpretation. We created a series of installations, each of which are designed to sit comfortably in the landscape, without breaking the illusion of an African rural setting.
An artists sketchbook, a wildlife spotter’s notebook, a travel guide, and nature guidebook, a school exercise poster, a poacher-patrol map and a classroom chalk board all carefully integrate into their setting to allow visitors to chance upon them.
The key messages are about connection and care with the species.
